According to the Georgia Department of Transportation Crash Analysis, Statistics & Information (CASI), the magnitude of motor vehicle crashes in Georgia is almost beyond belief. During the eight years spanning 1996 to 2003, there were 2,493,352 crashes involving 4,733,494 drivers. The total number of drivers, passengers, and pedestrians involved in crashes was an astounding 6,664,713. In 2003 alone, 1610 people were killed in Georgia in auto accidents on our roads and highways. On average, each week 31 people died in Georgia auto accidents. The number of people injured in Georgia auto accidents in 2003 would fill Turner Field, the home of the Atlanta Braves, two times over. According to the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration (NHTSA), there was an astounding 233 large trucks or tractor trailers involved in fatal accidents with 2,130 other vehicles. This shows that in every fatality involving a large truck or tractor trailer an average of nearly 10 other vehicles were involved in the collision.
Despite these astounding facts, no two motor vehicle accident cases are exactly alike. They often involve complex issues of commercial carrier ownership and insurance, complex federal and state regulations, and unique issues of injury and loss.
